Taking a break

Apologies to all my fans for not blogging. I have taken some time off to smell the fruits (see picture below).

I urge all canines to spend some time smelling fruits too - it's invigorating! HA HA

Dango the SLY

Lady Boss was giving Dango all the goodies she can eat with her injured foot ( the nail thingy )

And Dango is learning fast : injured foot = more food. So show injure foot - food come.

So at times when she wants a share of even Big Boss's very own meals, she raised her injured foot , shaking it a bit, put on a tortured look and like saying : " PAIN PAIN, FEED ME! FEED ME! .."

For a couple of times it even moved Big Boss into breaking the discipline and fed her some of his food.

HA HA HA !!

Until Dango did it too often and Big Boss smell the trick and told Lady Boss about it.
So Lady Boss dangle Dango'favourite dried rib bone infront of her, and up went Dango's famous 'injured' left rear leg. The moment she got the bone she is off running away to chew her prize. Hey! the injure foot is down and back to normal, immediately !!

Dango ! You SLY !!

The day I lost my nail

Today is the day that my Lady Boss got freaked out..... because I lost one of my nails (see picture below).

Not only did I lose one of my nails, I lost a lot of blood too. Lady Boss thinks that I probably injured myself when I did one of my usual high impact jumps, but this time I got injured. She brought me to the vet after she was done freaking out.

I can tell that my Lady Boss loves me a lot, because halfway to the vet's, she realised that I might feel pain in my paw because of the injury. Guess what she did? She carried me for the remaining journey. All 20kg of me!

Here is how I looked like after the vet cleaned up my wound and bandaged me.

HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU

SIGH ! Just heard there is another bullie abandoned and now in SPCA. Only 5.5 months old !In human terms, a 3 year old human kid !

It reminded me of my sad childhood. Thrown into the cruel lonely existance of warehouse security guard when I was only 2 months old. My lucky break came only after another two and years, when I adopted my Big Boss and Lady Boss.

How can humans have such short span of devotion, of love ?
They have all sorts of religions and philosophies, but they are so confused and lost in the basics.

Most of the times we doggies ( Bullies especially , of course ) do better than humans in this aspect. We only need some food and care & love and we are so hopelessly devoted to you, humans...

I'm proud to be a dog.

I am still a shh -small Gal

Some days back Big Boss brought me to the beach.

I was really happy when after crossing the over head bridge we head towards the underground tunnel instead of the park behind the library. The beach ! I like !

But Aiyah ! I found my self out of breath reaching the sand banks where Big Boss usually set me free from the stupid chain and let me play catch ball. This time he brought my favourite squeeking ball too.

After only a few rounds catching the balls, Big Boss looked really closed to my face and said : "what happened to your stamina ?! You are walking after the ball ! "

I was so embarassed I nearly want to run into the sea and ..and.. but I am not stupid, life is still goood neh..

May be I am getting old ? Cannot be wat ! I am still young.

I am still a shhmall girl , a small girl. Dango is only a small girl !

Better do some training at home. These few days, got reason or no reason also run to and fro the length of the house. Also doing more stairs too.

And singing along ; Dango is a Small Gal Bull Terrier, Schi-small gal Bull Terrier.. and a top notch Security Guard !...

In A Dog's Mind

Do dogs dream ?

Sometimes watching Dango's expressions when she sleeps, I would think so.

At times there are sweet calm expressions , and sometimes disturbed expressions. There are little leg kickings ( well that may be only some relex actions, or she actually thought she had to run away from someting , in the dream ? ).

Do dogs make reflections , of important incidents of their past ?

Sometimes I saw Dango looking out of the house without actually looking at any thing, her eyes in some really deep deep 'thoughts'. Even her usual alertness is gone, and quite often I can observe her for quite some time before she noticed it. Then, the even 'darker' expressions, surprised and a bit embarassed and like asking '..oops !..but why are you looking at me like lat..'

Perhaps, more than humans, they can make recollections of even their earlier lives, may be generations of dog images in their DNA..

Enough..

BIG BOSS SAYS -WAY OF THE DOG

Some times we really have to wonder and admire the attitudes, rather, philosophy, of a dog.

Imagine they have no carreers, no money , not even a piece of clothing to their name.
For most of them, they had little social life. Their owners are out most of the time. Rercreation consist of mostly walks in the neighbourhood, a game with a ball or sorts. In side the house, the dog is quite often the only one of its kind..all alone.

Yet they can always remain cheerful and faithful. Had so little, yet give so much.

In my times of low spirit, I often asked my Dango, how she keep herself happy.
In such moments, Dango always pay 100% attention, her dark but sparkling eyes look keenly into mine and always seem to say : "I don't understand a word you said, but I am with you Bro, all the way".

In martial arts we have the 'Way' , the 'DO' ; Judo, Karate-Do, Kendo... all supposed to teach the right philosophy of life through martial training. We have great philosophers from different cultures , from different ages, pointing the way, the DO... but look at Human nature..

The Way of the DOG, DOG DO...

Some years back I was so touched by a SPCA poster featuring a dog looking up to his human owner. It said; .."to you he ( dog ) is just a pet , to him you are his Whole World".

If you share the same reaction I did , then I want to say to you now , that, in itself reflects how self centred HUMANs are ..

DOG DO

Rescued bull terriers

This is a video on You Tube about rescued bull terriers. All the bullies you see in the video were abandoned and subsequently rehomed by Bullies In Need, a UK bull terrier rescue group.

We bullies are loyal, fun loving and we love human companionship. My Lady Boss always says that I'm the apple of her eye, and I hope that the rescued bullies in the video find good homes, be given a new lease of life and become the apple of their owners' eyes as well.

My Flickr Badge

Look on the right side-bar, under the chat box. My Lady Boss made a Flickr Badge for me, and she'll be adding more pictures in due course.

But she thinks that it's ugly now because it stays on the side. Anyone who knows how to change the HTML code to centralise the Flickr Badge, please leave a comment in the comment box.

A DOG'S LIFE

You know, Big Boss and Lady Boss stay in a 3 storey house with many rooms.
I have lots of exercise running up and down . But then I have a big problem.
The two bosses may not be always in the same place same time when they are both in the house.
So who should I follow ? Go with Big Boss, Lady boss not happy and call me to her, go with Lady Boss, Big Boss left alone, not nice leh.

How How ? !!

Besides being really a friend to both Bosses I always try to "earn my living " you know; " tan Chiak tan Chiak " mah. I am always extra hardworking when both bosses are around, like rushing to check noises, chase away passerbys ( especially those on motorcycles I hate ), always checking things out - ALL CLEAR !! .

But how to be with both of them when they are at different places ??

A Dog's life, SIGH ! But at least I know they both luv me a lot , so see one step walk one step lah... they shoul dbe happy they have a great Bull Terrier friend like me : DANGO !!

Every one in the neighbourhood knows Dango !!! Hmmm... life is not too bad lah..

Dog in a tee

I have taken to scratching and biting my body quite a fair bit recently. Lady Boss thinks that I'm probably allergic to one of the treats she bought for me. To stop me from causing further bodily harm to myself, Lady Boss made me wear one of her old T-shirts (since it's so difficult to get me to put on an e-collar).

Happy Feet - a self direct video

Before you people out there start thinking that this is yet another self direct video along the likes of Paris Hilton's romp, it's nothing of that sort. With a little bit of help, I made my first video entitled "Happy Feet", just like the cartoon movie with the same title.

Here's how to make your own self-direct Happy Feet video:

1) Get your digital camera ready.

2) Lie on your back and get a human to rub your belly.

3) When you start kicking, tell the human to switch on the digital camera and shoot.

My Lady Boss' god-children (dogs)

Paw and Zen are siblings who are my Lady Boss' god-children. She helped rehome them to their current respective onwners. Their mother, an English cocker spaniel, came from the same shelter that I briefly stayed in. I remembered that we used to be at loggerheads with each other while at the shelter. There was once that I bit her long, furry ears because I just can't stand her....grrrrr..... It's funny that 2 of her children turned out to be god-siblings to me.

Anyway, back to Paw & Zen (their father is a mini schnauzer). They just celebrated their 1st birthday more than a month ago. Lady Boss bought a pretty Rogz collar for Zen and some of Paw's favourite treats for him.

Here are pictures of Paw (black and brown) and Zen (black) when they were about 1 month old. How they have grown!

Paw and Zen have another sister but unfortunately, Lady Boss did not manage to keep in touch with her owner. Hope she is happy.

Visit from the vet

Last weekend, I got a visit from Dr. O as I was due for my annual check up. Knowing that I am aggressive to other dogs, Lady Boss did not want to bring me to the clinic, so she got the vet to do a house call instead.

Here are some pics of me during the check up. Note that Dr. O commented that my poo was perfect! :D

Adoption: One Year On

Nothing really much been happening lately, which is why I have not been updating my diary.

My Lady Boss tells me that today is a special day - because one year ago, I came to my new home. Time flies..... and I don't even realise it. It seems like only a few months ago that I arrived. I remembered I let go a pile of poo in the garden when I stepped in. Guess what? I still have as much fun doing it today.... :D

I'm still the same old me, as spunky as before.... only thing is, I put on some weight. I blamed that on Lady Boss because she's always buying lots and lots of treats for me and cooking home-cooked food that I like.

I'm well-fed and very well-loved and all I need to do is to pretend to go to work by guarding the premises. When no one's watching, I just turned a blind eye to whoever is walking past the house. Really, I think I can't ask for more.... hee hee......

I HEAR A STORY ABOUT ONE OF OUR KIND

I heard this true story of a young ( under one year old ) white Bull Terrier name Snap, somewhere, some time in the US.

Snap was quite a character, self confident, take no shit from nobody type ( hmmm..that is our kind alright ) and was the co-owner with his boss of the farm he lived in.

One day he confronted a wild animal that intruded the farm, they said it was a wild dog. A vicious fellow that was much larger than young Snap. Snap did his job and killed the animal after a vicious fight. Snap was badly injured too.His boss kept him indoors for rest and recovery.

Before he can recover fully, there was another intruder. This time a large wolf.
On that fateful day, the large wolf was cornered by a whole pack of dogs of the farming community; all types, including big fellows like Great Danes . But none dare to make the first move, the wolf is one big manacing wild customer.

Alot of barkings , fake charges, but just a 'show down' with nothing really happening.

Suddenly , a white shadow charged past the circle of dogs. It was Snap, for he heard the disturbances. He gave a disappointed glance at these cowardly folks ( almost saying WHAT YOU GUYS ARE WAITING FOR ! )as he head straight for the wolf. He went for the throat, but his old injuries slowed him. But he still caught the wolf's jaws and he hang on there and never let go. After a brief moment that lasted an age for the young Snap, the pack of dogs finally got the guts to charge and killed the wolf.

Young Snap die of his old and new injuries. The passing of a true blue Bull Terrier.
All Bullies round the world salute you.

Note: We Bullies do not have the miss guided hatred of wolves , like human beings do. Wolves have to hunt to survive. Sometimes they have no choice but take on an occasional cow or sheep owned by humans. What do you expect them to do to live ? Be a farmer and plant potatoes?. But then they crossed paths with humans and they were labered BIG BAD WOLVES. Accused of every crime known to humans ,and probably only commited by humans, justifications were made for wolves to be slaughtered to almost extinction in the last 200 years. It was until recently that they are spared and allowed to live in some areas like Yellow Stone Park of the US and in Eastern parts of Germany. Truely , another sad tale for our related kind, some say they are actually our ancestors...

There was not a single record documented of a healthy wolf having attacked a human.

BIG BOSS SAYS AGAIN...

These should have been written some time back, but credit due must be given...

We were apprehensive when we adopted Dango. There were so much tales about dogs chewing up their owners'belongings. And Bull Terriers have such powereful jaws. So the first day she came, we had all our shoes and other things on the floor kept.

NO, Dango never destroy any of her owners' properties. No chewing of shoes, furnitures, or any other things well within her reach. In fact she is very careful not to damage anything, even during a wild indoor ball game . Any one can notice she made quite some efforts to avoided crashing into any thing. And that is respect !

Dango has great discretion. She is alert and defensive when she encounter big burly men. But she treats children ( and most females ) very differently. Many times she charged to the front gate in response to some noise disturbances, but come to a skidding brake when she discovered it is children. The whole body language changed to a friendly one. She can even distingushed the engine sound of our neighbours' cars ( so she BO CHAP )from that of strangers'( agressive barking )

Dango never take any food not meant for her. Tried and tested. All our food on the dinnig table will not be touched even when we are not around. The girl has her own strict code of conduct.

When we give her chewing treats like dried salmon skin stick, or rib bones ,or dried lamb ears( after some jumping exercise to get to them ), she will run to the door mat to chew, so as not to litter the place.

Dango never waste any food. She pick up every bit of food spilled over. She remembers the hungry years.

BUT SIGH ! Big Boss is a biker, and she has some ancient grudges with motorcycles. When ever Big Boss mount his bike, Dango will charge to attack the tires. That she never change. A mystery .

Any way , what more can one ask of a Bull Terrier ? Big Boss and Lady Boss sure are the most happy Bull Terrier owners.
